Amogy and KBR partner to integrate ammonia cracking catalysts into hydrogen platforms, advancing scalable, sustainable hydrogen solutions for global decarbonization.
Amogy Inc., a Brooklyn-based clean energy company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Houston-headquartered KBR, Inc. to strengthen the role of ammonia as a global hydrogen carrier. The Collaboration will emphasize advancing ammonia cracking technologies, with a particular focus on applying Amogy鈥檚 proprietary catalysts to KBR鈥檚 hydrogen production platforms. Both companies aim to accelerate progress toward decarbonization while enhancing the viability of ammonia as a key enabler of the hydrogen economy.
Under this agreement, Amogy鈥檚 advanced Ruthenium ammonia cracking catalysts will be assessed for integration into KBR鈥檚 established hydrogen systems. Potential commercial applications include industrial facilities and offshore projects, where efficient hydrogen production is in growing demand. Beyond technical testing, the partnership will include structured knowledge exchange, coordinated exploration of new market opportunities, and collaborative demonstrations of Amogy鈥檚 catalyst solutions incorporated into KBR鈥檚 platforms.
Amogy鈥檚 catalyst suite is designed to efficiently convert ammonia into hydrogen. By leveraging both precious-metal-based and base-metal-based formulations, the company provides versatile solutions that can operate at lower temperatures while maintaining high activity and output. These catalysts are available for deployment through licensing or direct sales, offering scalability and flexibility for a range of energy applications. Such attributes are critical in enabling reliable hydrogen supply for diverse sectors, including power generation, transportation, and heavy industry.
KBR brings to the table its extensive global expertise in hydrogen technologies. Its portfolio includes H2KPlus鈩, which supports cost-effective blue hydrogen production through Steam Methane Reforming (SMR), and H2ACT, a technology tailored for hydrogen generation from ammonia. By evaluating Amogy鈥檚 catalysts within these platforms, KBR seeks to determine opportunities for integration and commercial expansion. The partnership therefore complements KBR鈥檚 long-standing focus on Sustainable Energy solutions while advancing innovative hydrogen pathways.
According to Amogy CEO Seonghoon Woo, KBR鈥檚 recognized leadership in hydrogen innovation makes it a strong strategic ally. Woo emphasized that merging Amogy鈥檚 expertise in catalysts with KBR鈥檚 world-class technological platforms will accelerate the scaling of ammonia as a global hydrogen carrier. The companies believe their combined efforts can unlock new possibilities for cost-effective, carbon-free energy on a global scale.
Ammonia鈥檚 potential lies in its practicality as a hydrogen carrier. Unlike pure hydrogen, which presents storage and transport challenges due to low volumetric density, ammonia is energy-dense, stable, and compatible with existing infrastructure. It can be shipped globally, then cracked back into hydrogen to provide a carbon-free fuel source. This positions ammonia as a critical bridge in meeting clean hydrogen demand across industries and geographies. As the world intensifies efforts to decarbonize, collaborations such as the one between Amogy and KBR highlight how strategic Partnerships and technology integration can accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
