Asian prices of Ethylene Acrylic Acid (EAA) Copolymers gained 1.3% monthly due to a mix of reduced supply, firm acrylic acid values, and stable downstream demand in specialty and packaging applications.

A key factor behind this month鈥檚 EAA copolymers price increase was the firmness in the acrylic acid market, which remained on an upward path due to tight spot availability and stable operating rates. As in the middle of April, acrylic acid prices had increased by 0.44% from early April. While propylene, the main raw material for acrylic acid, showed mild price movement, it did not pressure costs significantly, providing a stable cost base.

In addition, Chinese and Southeast Asian producers emphasized long-term contracts, leading to lower inventory levels and limited spot sales, further constricting the EAA copolymers market. Producers' lack of new capacity additions and periodic maintenance activity also contributed to the supply constraint.

On the ethylene side, prices showed varied trends region-wise. CFR Southeast Asia prices fell week-on-week in April 2025 due to weak demand and risk-averse buying sentiment. However, prices of EAA Copolymer on an FOB basis in both Korea and Japan held steady.

The ethylene market was impacted by various scheduled maintenance turnarounds. Notably, PTTGC鈥檚 No. 2 cracker in Thailand, capable of producing 515,000 mt/year of ethylene, along with PRefChem鈥檚 Malaysian cracker with a capacity of 1.2 million mt/year, continued to stay out of operation. These shutdowns, as well as the outage of Lotte Chemical's South Korean cracker, extending through June, have cut regional ethylene supplies, tightening downstream EAA copolymers makers' feedstock supply.

Despite some slowness in wider petrochemical markets, demand for EAA copolymers remained strong, especially in flexible food packaging, adhesives, and coatings, where performance requirements are strict and substitution is restricted. Though macroeconomic uncertainty in China and elsewhere has affected consumer goods overall, industrial and food-grade applications continued to serve as a stable consumption base for EAA copolymers.

Buyers were conservative, though, because of the high price levels. Procurement was mostly based on necessities and not speculative building up of stocks, which maintained trade volumes moderate despite the price hike.

As per 果酱视频, the EAA copolymers market will remain underpinned shortly as acrylic acid supply remains tight and cracker upkeep continues to limit ethylene availability. Players in the market are also paying close attention to the volatility in feedstock and crude oil prices, which could affect cost levels. With these factors in mind, EAA copolymers prices in Asia could remain stable or continue modest upward revisions over the next month.
