Edge, a company within the Cosan group that operates in the free gas market, announced on Wednesday (16) that it has completed its first import of Argentine natural gas into Brazil, utilizing existing infrastructure through Bolivia. This landmark operation was conducted in partnership with Argentina鈥檚 Tecpetrol, a company with a daily production capacity of 25 million cubic meters of natural gas. Tecpetrol operates two conventional gas fields in Argentina鈥檚 Northwest Basin, as well as Fort铆n de Piedra 鈥 the country鈥檚 main unconventional gas field located in the Neuqu茅n Basin, within the Vaca Muerta region.

The gas transported from Argentina via Bolivia will now become part of Edge鈥檚 supply portfolio. In addition to commercializing gas, Edge is actively involved in developing infrastructure and logistics projects within the energy sector. This initiative represents a significant step toward regional energy integration and is the second example in recent weeks of Argentine gas reaching Brazil via Bolivian infrastructure. Earlier this month, French energy giant TotalEnergies carried out a similar operation, exporting gas from Vaca Muerta to Brazil's Matrix Energia.

According to various media outlets, Edge CEO Demetrio Magalh茫es emphasized the growing importance of Argentine gas in South America鈥檚 energy landscape. He noted that this move supports regional energy security and economic development. 鈥淭his is a movement that reinforces our positioning of fostering regional energy integration, connecting South America鈥檚 resources with intelligence and complementarity to guarantee a flexible, safe, and competitive supply, in addition to increasingly developing the free gas market,鈥 Magalh茫es said.

Ricardo Markous, CEO of Tecpetrol, also stressed the immense potential of the Vaca Muerta region to contribute significantly to regional energy needs. He pointed out that the area鈥檚 vast reserves and ongoing infrastructure expansion projects will enable Argentina to supply neighboring countries reliably and competitively. 鈥淭here is a huge opportunity, and expansions in transportation capacity are underway 鈥 and in planning 鈥 that will allow us to supply, competitively and safely, all of our neighboring countries,鈥 he stated, as per several media reports.

This development underscores the broader trend of deepening energy collaboration across South America. By tapping into Argentina鈥檚 abundant gas resources and leveraging Bolivia鈥檚 existing pipeline network, companies like Edge and Tecpetrol are helping reshape the continent鈥檚 energy flow. The project not only enhances Brazil's energy diversification but also strengthens economic ties among the three nations involved.
