Cosmo First Ltd. has announced the commissioning of a new Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film manufacturing line at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. The expansion, involving a capital expenditure of more than Rs. 400 crore, marks a significant milestone in the company鈥檚 strategic growth plans. With this new development, Cosmo First has enhanced its total BOPP production capacity by approximately 40 percent, bringing the annual output to 277,000 metric tonnes (MT).
The newly installed line is one of the largest BOPP film production lines globally, with a rated annual capacity of 81,200 MT. This makes it not only a major addition to Cosmo First鈥檚 manufacturing capabilities but also a benchmark in the global flexible packaging industry. The company emphasized that this expansion supports its continued focus on specialty films, a segment that has demonstrated a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10 percent over the last six years.
Specialty films are used in a range of applications including packaging, labeling, and various industrial uses, and are increasingly in demand due to their advanced barrier properties and enhanced functionality. Cosmo First has been steadily growing its portfolio in this segment and plans to introduce several new products in the coming quarters to further strengthen its market position.
Commenting on the development, Pankaj Poddar, group CEO of Cosmo First, said, 鈥淲e expect the line to get filled quickly, thanks to the current favorable gap between demand and supply in the domestic market. Additionally, the new BOPP line is eligible for state government incentives and is also the most cost-efficient line in India.鈥�
Poddar added that the company鈥檚 focus will be on maximizing the benefits of this new investment. 鈥淥ur emphasis will be on leveraging this expansion鈥攊ncluding the newly commissioned BOPP line鈥攖o drive growth in our specialty film sales,鈥� he said.
