Dow Unveils INNATE™ TF 220 Resin to Boost Recyclable Packaging and Industry Collaboration

William Faulkner 02-Jul-2025

Dow launches INNATE™ TF 220 resin, driving recyclable packaging innovation and enabling circular economy through strategic industry partnerships and collaborations.

Dow has announced a significant advancement in sustainable packaging with the launch of its INNATE™ TF 220 Precision Packaging Resin, which supports the development of high-performance biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE) films tailored for recyclability. This innovation marks a pivotal step in Dow's broader efforts to accelerate the transition to a circular economy by promoting scalable, sustainable packaging solutions. Designed to meet the dual demands of performance and sustainability, INNATE™ TF 220 Resin features a distinct molecular structure that ensures excellent extrusion stability and processability during biaxial stretching. These properties reduce manufacturing waste while delivering strong end-use benefits such as improved stiffness, high heat resistance, enhanced optical clarity, and durability—all of which make it ideal for mono-material packaging formats.

Dow is also deepening its collaborations across the value chain to support the adoption of circular packaging. Notably, Dow has partnered with Liby, one of China’s leading laundry detergent brands, to incorporate 10% REVOLOOP™ post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin into the packaging of its “Floral Era” detergent series. This initiative not only reduces carbon emissions but also maintains the quality and integrity of the product packaging. Liby’s general manager of R&D, Zhang Liping, emphasized their commitment to circularity, citing Dow's role in developing China’s first fully recyclable laundry packaging using INNATE™ TF-BOPE resin as a key achievement in their partnership. This collaboration showcases how Dow’s material science expertise can translate into real-world, high-volume sustainable applications without compromising on performance or consumer satisfaction.

INNATE™ TF 220 resin is helping brand owners and converters navigate increasing regulatory and consumer demands for recyclability, particularly in regions like China that are pursuing aggressive “Double Carbon” targets. The upgraded TF-BOPE films made with the resin are already being adopted across priority sectors such as Food & Beverage and Home & Personal Care. These applications illustrate how packaging functionality and brand aesthetics can be preserved while embracing mono-material structures that support recycling initiatives.

Dow’s continued focus on innovation and stakeholder collaboration is central to its strategy of transforming the packaging industry. Through advancements like the INNATE™ TF 220 resin, Dow is not only addressing immediate sustainability challenges but also laying the groundwork for a closed-loop materials ecosystem. Investments in advanced recycling technologies, sustainable design principles, and PCR integration reflect Dow’s commitment to shaping a future where packaging is not only high-performing but also environmentally responsible. The company's efforts reaffirm its leadership in redefining packaging circularity and setting new standards for sustainable materials development.
