EnviTec Biogas commissions a new biomethane plant in Cremona, reinforcing Italy鈥檚 renewable energy transition and expanding its national project pipeline.
EnviTec Biogas continues to strengthen its expansion path with the successful commissioning of a new biogas and gas upgrading facility in Soncino, near Cremona, Italy. As of today, the newly completed plant is injecting 237 Nm鲁/h (equivalent to 250 Sm鲁/h) of biomethane into the national gas grid, marking a significant milestone in Italy鈥檚 renewable energy landscape.
The achievement is particularly meaningful for EnviTec and its long-standing partner, agribusiness entrepreneur Dr. Francesco Avogadri. 鈥淭his project is a moment of shared success and celebration,鈥� said Mario Della Bella, Managing Director of EnviTec Biogas S.r.l. in Verona. The collaboration between EnviTec and Azienda Avogadri dates back to 2009, when the first biogas plant was constructed, laying the foundation for a partnership that has now spanned more than 15 years.
Over the past decade and a half, EnviTec Biogas Italy has built a solid reputation in the Italian market as a fully integrated biogas plant manufacturer and service provider. According to Della Bella, this long-term presence and technical depth have positioned the company as a trusted partner for agricultural and industrial customers seeking reliable and future-ready energy solutions.
The Soncino facility has been custom-designed to meet the operational needs of Azienda Avogadri. The plant utilizes pig slurry and catch crops as primary feedstocks, enabling efficient resource use while reducing waste-related emissions. EnviTec delivered the complete scope of the project, including biomass pre-treatment systems, anaerobic digestion units, oxygen generation, and the full EnviThan gas upgrading solution.
Gianluca Visconti, Sales Manager at EnviTec Biogas Italy, highlighted that the EnviThan upgrading system is based on more than ten years of in-house development using advanced three-stage membrane technology. The system was fully assembled and tested at EnviTec鈥檚 facilities in Saerbeck, Germany, before being transported and installed in Italy, ensuring optimal performance and reliability from day one.
Beyond energy production, sustainability is central to the Avogadri operation. In addition to pig breeding, the company cultivates a substantial share of its animal feed internally. By progressively replacing fossil fuels with renewable biomethane, the enterprise is actively lowering carbon emissions across its entire production cycle.
This commitment to eco-efficiency is reflected across EnviTec鈥檚 broader Italian project pipeline. Currently, three additional projects are under development. For Azienda Agricola F.lli Scotti, a new EnviThan plant with a capacity of 426 Nm鲁/h (450 Sm鲁/h) is nearing completion at EnviTec鈥檚 headquarters in Saerbeck. Once finalized, it will be installed in Italy.
Another project is underway in Istia d鈥橭mbrone, near Grosseto, where an existing EnviTec biogas plant is being expanded with a gas upgrading system and a new combined heat and power (CHP) unit. Similarly, in Sermide, located in the Province of Mantua, EnviTec is modernizing an existing plant. The scope includes a new gas-tight final storage unit, an upgraded feeding system with substrate pre-treatment, full plant refurbishment, and ongoing service support.
Looking ahead, the extension of Italy鈥檚 PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) is expected to accelerate the country鈥檚 biomethane market and help achieve national energy targets. Additional incentive mechanisms are also anticipated in the near future.
