HyOrc and Acetech Metals will co-develop a green methanol facility in the UK, converting municipal waste into clean fuel. Starting at 35 TPD and scaling to 150 TPD, it aims to produce 12,000 tons annually. Over 25 years, projected revenue is $200 million. A UK-based SPV will manage the project.
HyOrc Corporation (OTC: ASPZ), a recognized leader in hydrogen combustion and waste-to-fuel innovation, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Acetech Metals Limited to jointly develop a green methanol production facility in Scunthorpe, United Kingdom. The project aims to convert municipal solid waste into sustainable green methanol and clean electricity using HyOrc鈥檚 proprietary gasification and methanol synthesis technologies.
As part of this agreement, HyOrc and Acetech plan to initially deploy a 35 tons per day (TPD) Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) gasification system, combined with a methanol synthesis unit. This first phase will include the installation of HyOrc鈥檚 syngas engines to generate electricity on-site, providing the necessary energy to operate the facility. The pilot-scale operation is designed to demonstrate the technical and commercial viability of turning RDF into valuable green fuels and energy, while laying the groundwork for a more expansive facility in the future.
The second phase of the project involves scaling up the plant's processing capacity to 150 TPD. At this expanded scale, the facility is expected to produce approximately 12,000 metric tons of green methanol each year. Over the anticipated 25-year lifespan of the project, this output is projected to generate around $200 million in revenue, establishing the economic as well as environmental value of the endeavor.
Under the MOU, Acetech Metals will be responsible for securing a steady supply of RDF feedstock and providing suitable industrial land for the project. These contributions will be formalized through long-term agreements to ensure consistent operation and plant stability. HyOrc will contribute its advanced waste-to-fuel technology, including both the gasification systems and the methanol synthesis unit. Importantly, HyOrc will retain ownership of its proprietary equipment and licensing rights, reinforcing its position as a technology provider.
To facilitate project implementation, the two companies will establish a jointly owned Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) based in the UK. This entity will oversee the development, financing, and operations of the plant, serving as the legal and organizational backbone of the partnership.
K. Reginald Fubara, CEO of HyOrc, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, stating, 鈥淭his collaboration with Acetech marks a major milestone in HyOrc鈥檚 mission to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors using proven waste-to-fuel solutions. The Scunthorpe project is the first in a series of similar green methanol initiatives planned as part of our growing green fuels portfolio.鈥
The collaboration represents a significant step in advancing waste-to-fuel technology in the UK and contributes meaningfully to the broader goal of reducing carbon emissions from industrial and municipal waste.
