Saudi Arabia's largest private chemical company, BCI Group, has awarded thyssenkrupp nucera a significant contract to expand its chlor-alkali production facility in Jubail.
In a move set to bolster Saudi Arabia's chemical manufacturing capabilities, the Chemical Marketing and Distribution Company (CMDC), a key entity within the Basic Chemical Industries Company (BCI Group), has commissioned leading electrolysis technology provider thyssenkrupp nucera for the next crucial phase of its chlor-alkali plant expansion in Jubail Industrial City. This contract, valued at approximately 鈧15 million, underscores a long-standing and successful collaboration between the two industrial powerhouses, further solidifying BCI Group's position as a dominant force in the Kingdom's chemical sector.
The expansion project will see thyssenkrupp nucera supplying its cutting-edge, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly membrane technology. Specifically, the latest BM2.7 single-element generation will be integrated, promising improved energy efficiency and superior plant performance through its innovative, energy-saving design elements. This technological upgrade is a testament to both companies' commitment to sustainable industrial growth and aligns with global efforts towards more resource-efficient production processes.
BCI, headquartered in Dammam, has been a cornerstone of the Saudi Arabian chemical industry for over five decades. Listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange (TASI) since 2008, the company plays a vital role in supplying a diverse range of industries with essential organic and inorganic specialty chemicals and technical services. The products from the Jubail plant, including caustic soda, sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, and liquid chlorine, are critical for local markets, exports, and specialized applications such as water treatment.
The partnership between BCI and thyssenkrupp nucera spans more than a decade, built on a foundation of trust and technological excellence. Their collaboration began in 2013 with a contract for BCI's Dammam Chlor-Alkali Plant, followed by the initial phase of the Jubail project in 2017. This latest contract represents a continuation of this fruitful alliance, demonstrating BCI's confidence in thyssenkrupp nucera's ability to deliver advanced solutions that enhance operational efficiency and market competitiveness.
Dr. Gerhard Henssen, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera Italy SRL, expressed his enthusiasm about the new agreement. "BCI is a highly successful chemical company 鈥 and by using our cutting-edge chlor-alkali membrane technology, they are strengthening their market position," he stated. Dr. Henssen emphasized the strategic importance of this new contract, remarking, "This new contract in Jubail marks another milestone in our long and successful partnership with BCI in Saudi Arabia."
