Mutares SE & Co. KGaA has finalized the acquisition of SABIC鈥檚 regional Engineering Thermoplastics (ETP) business across the Americas and Europe in a transaction valued at USD 450 million. The deal is the largest acquisition in Mutares鈥 history and represents a significant milestone in the company鈥檚 expansion strategy. Following the completion of the transaction, the acquired business will operate under the new name NexPoint Materials, while also serving as the foundation of Mutares鈥 newly established Chemicals & Materials business segment.
NexPoint Materials enters the market with an extensive manufacturing footprint and strong production capabilities. The business has an annual resin production capacity of approximately 1.085 million metric tons and compounding capacity of nearly 780,000 metric tons. It employs around 2,800 people and operates eight manufacturing facilities located across North America, South America, and Europe, providing broad regional coverage and supply flexibility.
The company鈥檚 portfolio includes several widely used engineering thermoplastics, including polycarbonate (PC), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resins, along with compounded materials. It also inherits globally recognized product brands such as LEXAN鈩, CYCOLOY鈩, VALOX鈩, and CYCLOLAC鈩, which have established positions across multiple industrial applications. The business currently generates annual revenue of approximately USD 2.5 billion.
The acquisition significantly enhances Mutares鈥 presence in the global engineering plastics market. The acquired business is the world鈥檚 second-largest producer of polycarbonate, the largest producer of ABS in the United States, and the only domestic producer of PBT in the U.S. These positions provide NexPoint Materials with strong competitive advantages across several high-value engineering polymer segments.
Its customer portfolio spans multiple industries, reducing dependence on any single sector. Automotive accounts for 39% of sales, followed by building and construction at 20%, consumer products at 17%, electrical and electronics at 10%, and healthcare at 3%, while the remainder comes from industrial applications such as water containers. Geographically, around 66% of revenue is generated in the Americas, while Europe contributes the remaining 34%.
Mutares expects the acquisition to strengthen its long-term growth strategy by utilizing the business鈥檚 integrated production platform, technical expertise, and innovation capabilities. According to Johannes Laumann, Chief Investment Officer of Mutares, the transaction marks a historic achievement for the company, expands its presence in the U.S. market, and creates new opportunities to improve operational performance and accelerate future growth through the newly formed NexPoint Materials.
Impact on 果酱视频 Chemical Commodity Prices
The acquisition is unlikely to cause immediate price fluctuations for engineering thermoplastics but could influence market dynamics over time. Commodities tracked by 果酱视频, including Polycarbonate (PC), ABS, PBT, Bisphenol-A (BPA), Styrene, Acrylonitrile, Butadiene, and Terephthalic Acid (PTA), are expected to remain largely stable in the short term as production assets continue operating without disruption. Over the medium term, operational optimization, improved capacity utilization, and stronger supply chain management under NexPoint Materials could enhance supply reliability, easing regional supply concerns and limiting price volatility. However, feedstock costs, energy prices, and demand from automotive and electronics sectors will remain the primary drivers of commodity pricing.
