MAIRE has announced that its subsidiary, NEXTCHEM鈥檚 KT Tech, has been awarded a licensing contract to implement the company鈥檚 proprietary NX AdWinMethanol Zero technology for Pacifico Mexinol, an ultra-low carbon methanol facility. Located near Los Mochis, Sinaloa, on Mexico鈥檚 Pacific coast, the plant will have an annual production capacity exceeding 2.1 million tons.

The overall project is valued at approximately 鈧�250 million and includes basic engineering, proprietary and critical equipment supply, as well as support for commissioning, start-up, and facility operations. Houston-based Transition Industries, a key player in large-scale low-carbon methanol and hydrogen projects in North America, is developing the Pacifico Mexinol facility in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.

Set to begin operations in 2028, Pacifico Mexinol is expected to be the world鈥檚 largest ultra-low carbon methanol plant. The facility will produce around 350,000 metric tons of green methanol and 1.8 million metric tons of blue methanol annually, utilizing natural gas in combination with carbon capture technology. The NX AdWinMethanol Zero technology, developed by GasConTec鈥擭EXTCHEM鈥檚 subsidiary specializing in low-carbon hydrogen and methanol solutions鈥攊ntegrates an advanced Autothermal Reforming (ATR) process, a methanol synthesis loop, and proprietary CO2 capture technologies. By converting captured CO2 and green hydrogen into methanol, this innovative approach effectively reduces carbon emissions to nearly zero, aligning with Pacifico Mexinol鈥檚 commitment to sustainability.

Ultra-low carbon methanol plays a crucial role in decarbonizing industries that are difficult to transition to renewable energy. The methanol produced at Pacifico Mexinol will contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of numerous downstream products, including plastics, paints, automotive components, and construction materials.
