ORLEN Neptun, a subsidiary of the ORLEN Group, has officially launched Poland鈥檚 first offshore wind farm installation terminal in Swinoujscie. This state-of-the-art facility marks a significant step in the development of renewable energy infrastructure in the region and positions itself among the most advanced terminals in Europe.

Designed to handle large-scale offshore wind operations, the terminal will serve as a strategic base for ORLEN鈥檚 second-phase wind projects. Additionally, it will be accessible to other operators involved in offshore projects across the Baltic Sea. In a major milestone, ORLEN Neptun has signed its first long-term lease agreement with Ocean Winds鈥攁 Spanish-French consortium recognized as one of the world鈥檚 leading offshore wind developers.

鈥淭he terminal in Swinoujscie is more than just infrastructure鈥攊t鈥檚 a foundation for an entirely new sector of the Polish economy,鈥 said Ireneusz Fafara, CEO and president of ORLEN鈥檚 management board. 鈥淥ffshore wind energy will power homes, industries and transportation, while creating new opportunities for economic growth. With nearly 50% participation from Polish capital, this initiative signifies a turning point in our clean energy journey.鈥

The terminal will be capable of supporting the installation of dozens of wind turbines annually, becoming the region鈥檚 premier offshore installation hub. It has been engineered to handle the largest vessels used in wind farm construction, including jack-up and heavy-lift ships. It will accommodate turbines with capacities of up to 15 megawatts.

Its operations will include the handling of monopiles, towers, blades, nacelles, subsea cables, and offshore substation topsides weighing up to 24,000 tonnes. Swinoujscie鈥檚 multimodal access鈥攙ia road, rail, air, and sea鈥攁nd favorable inland weather conditions will ensure year-round functionality.

The terminal will primarily support ORLEN鈥檚 offshore wind projects, including Baltic Power and future developments, but will also serve operators in German, Swedish and Danish waters.

Janusz Bil, president of ORLEN Neptun, emphasized the terminal鈥檚 competitive edge: 鈥淥ur facility鈥檚 advanced design is already drawing strong interest. We鈥檙e not only opening the terminal鈥攚e鈥檙e securing its future with a lease to one of the largest global developers.鈥

Under the agreement, Ocean Winds will utilize nearly the entire site to support the BC-Wind offshore wind farm, located roughly 150 nautical miles from Swinoujscie. The terminal will handle delivery, storage, and initial preparation of turbine foundations before shipping them offshore. Local contractors with international expertise will manage cargo and port operations.

Kacper Kostrzewa, managing director of Ocean Winds Poland, added, 鈥淭his partnership underlines our commitment to local supply chains. Swinoujscie鈥檚 terminal meets our technical and timeline needs perfectly.鈥

The investment aligns with the ORLEN2035 strategy, which aims to build 12.8 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2035, including about 6.4 gigawatts from offshore wind.

ORLEN Neptun, a key subsidiary of the ORLEN Group, focuses on the development of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, contributing to the transition toward clean energy. While Neptun specializes in offshore wind energy, the broader ORLEN Group offers a comprehensive portfolio in the energy sector. This includes petroleum products such as medium and light distillates, heavy fractions, and various fuels. ORLEN is also active in the petrochemical industry, producing plastics, fertilizers, and other essential chemicals. Additionally, the company supplies multiple fuel types, including gasoline and diesel, and offers a variety of oils, from base oils to advanced lubricants. Other product offerings include solvents and automotive fluids like brake fluid, highlighting ORLEN鈥檚 diverse industrial footprint.
