Polyplastics launches new DURAFIDE庐 PPS grades with mechanically recycled content, advancing circularity, sustainability, and high-performance recycled engineering plastics worldwide.
Polyplastics Co., Ltd., a recognized global supplier of advanced engineering thermoplastics, has announced the development of two new DURAFIDE庐 polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) grades that incorporate mechanically recycled materials. These newly developed products mark another significant step in the company鈥檚 long-term sustainability strategy and its commitment to circular manufacturing. The two grades鈥擠URAFIDE庐 rG-PPS 1140A1R00 and DURAFIDE庐 rG-PPS 1140A1R30鈥攁re both reinforced with 40% glass fiber and are scheduled for commercial launch in the coming months. While the 1140A1R00 grade is produced using 100% mechanically recycled glass fiber-reinforced PPS content, the 1140A1R30 grade contains 30% recycled content, offering customers flexibility in balancing sustainability goals with performance requirements.
The introduction of these materials is part of Polyplastics鈥 broader DURACIRCLE庐 initiative, which aims to achieve full circularity鈥100% material reuse and recycling鈥攁cross its engineering plastics portfolio. As part of this initiative, the new PPS grades are supplied through the company鈥檚 re-compounding service, which relies on process scrap collected directly from customers. This closed-loop approach operates under Polyplastics鈥 鈥淥pen PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme,鈥 a framework designed to enable efficient reuse of high-quality post-industrial recycled (PIR) materials while maintaining strict quality and performance standards.
To ensure consistent product reliability, Polyplastics sources glass fiber-reinforced PPS process scrap exclusively from partner companies that meet rigorous qualification criteria. Once collected, the scrap materials undergo thorough inspection, careful sorting, and precise reformulation. The re-compounding process is carried out under carefully controlled conditions to preserve material integrity. Importantly, the recycled PPS grades are subjected to the same quality assurance protocols as virgin DURAFIDE庐 materials, ensuring that customers receive products that meet demanding technical specifications. These recycled-content PPS grades will be marketed and distributed through Polyplastics鈥 established global sales network, although current collection activities are limited to selected grades of glass-filled DURAFIDE庐 PPS materials.
Looking ahead, Polyplastics recognizes that the success of its re-compounding business and the continued expansion of the Open PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme depend on developing new applications and establishing stable collection routes. To this end, the company is pursuing collaborative initiatives that extend beyond its existing customer base. These efforts include partnerships with organizations involved in waste-to-value and recycling-related industries, with the goal of strengthening material recovery ecosystems and expanding the availability of recyclable feedstocks.
In response to evolving market demand and growing interest in sustainable materials, Polyplastics is also evaluating the introduction of additional mechanically recycled PPS grades. A key objective is to establish self-sustaining 鈥渓ocal production for local consumption鈥 recycling loops within individual countries and regions. By shortening supply chains and increasing regional recycling capacity, the company aims to reduce transportation-related emissions while improving supply reliability. Furthermore, Polyplastics plans to expand the range of recycled inputs to include post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials, thereby further increasing the availability of high-quality recycled engineering plastics. Through these combined efforts, the company seeks to lower environmental impact, enhance resource efficiency, and provide customers with dependable, performance-driven solutions that support their sustainability objectives.
