Stepan Co. has officially begun production at its new alkoxylation plant in Pasadena, Texas, marking a significant milestone in the company鈥檚 expansion of its manufacturing capabilities. The facility became operational in early April following a multi-year development effort.

The launch represents a major achievement for the start-up team, which included Stepan employees and contractors. Together, the team contributed more than 2 million work hours to the project 鈥 all completed without a single recordable safety incident. Stepan leadership praised the team鈥檚 dedication to maintaining safety and operational excellence throughout the construction and commissioning phases.

Strategically located on the U.S. Gulf Coast, the state-of-the-art facility is positioned near essential raw materials, helping to streamline the supply chain and enhance speed to market. The new site is equipped for both ethoxylation and propoxylation processes, and it boasts an annual production capacity of 75,000 metric tons of alkoxylates ( a varied class of chemical compounds formed by reacting ethylene oxide (EO), propylene oxide (PO), or other alkylene oxides with base materials such as fatty alcohols, acids, or amines).

The Pasadena plant is Stepan鈥檚 third alkoxylation facility and plays a key role in strengthening the company鈥檚 long-term manufacturing strategy. The company has already hired more than 40 employees to support operations at the site. These new team members have collectively completed over 27,000 hours of training in preparation for the launch.

The expanded alkoxylation capacity will support Stepan鈥檚 growing surfactant product portfolio. Surfactants produced at the facility are vital to a wide range of industries, including agriculture, oilfield services, construction, industrial and institutional cleaning, and personal care.

鈥淏ringing this facility online is a significant step in enhancing our ability to serve our customers,鈥 the company stated. 鈥淲e are investing in infrastructure that not only meets current demand but also positions us for future growth in key markets.鈥

With the launch of the Pasadena plant, Stepan continues its commitment to providing high-performance solutions and value-added technologies that support its customers鈥 success. The company鈥檚 investment in expanding its alkoxylation network reflects its strategic vision to meet increasing global demand and deliver innovative, reliable products.
