The successful commissioning of this plant is expected to have a ripple effect across the Indian solar industry, contributing to reduced manufacturing costs for solar panels and boosting domestic production capabilities.

TANFAC Industries, a prominent Indian chemical manufacturer, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully commissioning its 5,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) Solar Grade Dilute Hydrofluoric Acid (DHF) plant. The announcement, made on June 13, 2025, sent the company's shares rallying 3.35% to Rs 3,161.95, reflecting investor confidence in this strategic move.

This pioneering achievement positions TANFAC as the first Indian chemical company to establish a solar-grade DHF production facility, a critical raw material essential for the rapidly expanding solar energy industry. The commissioning follows rigorous trial production, with the product receiving stringent quality approval from one of India's major solar energy producers. This validation underscores the plant's readiness for full-scale commercial operations and its ability to meet the high standards required for solar panel manufacturing.

Solar Grade DHF plays a vital role in the production of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and wafers, primarily used for etching and cleaning processes. The domestic availability of this crucial chemical is expected to significantly reduce India's reliance on imports, fostering greater self-reliance in the clean energy sector and aligning with the nation's ambitious renewable energy goals.

Looking ahead, TANFAC is already in the midst of implementing the second phase of this ambitious project. This expansion aims to double the total Solar Grade DHF capacity to 10,000 TPA, with commissioning anticipated within the next three months. This aggressive expansion plan further demonstrates TANFAC's commitment to becoming a key enabler of India's solar manufacturing ecosystem.

TANFAC Industries operates as a joint venture between the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and Anupam Rasayan India (ARIL), with management control vested with ARIL. The company's core business involves the production of hydrofluoric acid (HF) and aluminium fluoride (ALF), alongside sulphuric acid and various specialty fluorides catering to a diverse customer base. This new venture into solar-grade DHF production marks a strategic diversification and a significant step towards capturing a larger share of the burgeoning renewable energy market in India.

This development not only highlights TANFAC's innovative prowess but also signals a broader trend of Indian chemical companies stepping up to support the nation's clean energy transition.
