TotalEnergies Corbion, a major player in the bioplastics sector, and Benvic, a leading compounding specialist, announced a joint effort Thursday to broaden the use of sustainable Luminy庐 PLA-based compounds in industries demanding durable materials.

The collaboration aims to increase the availability of plant-based alternatives in sectors such as automotive, healthcare and medical devices, cosmetics packaging, household appliances, and the electrical and electronics industries.

Through this partnership, Benvic will incorporate TotalEnergies Corbion鈥檚 Luminy庐 PLA into its Plantura庐 portfolio. These resulting biobased compounds offer a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to traditional plastics like ABS, PS, and PP. By combining Luminy庐 PLA with other biobased materials, the companies intend to enhance the performance and functionality of PLA, supporting a global shift toward more environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.

鈥淲e are excited to collaborate with Benvic in extending the usage of sustainable PLA compounds,鈥 said Hao Ding, Global Marketing Director at TotalEnergies Corbion. 鈥淲ith our strong network of brand owners and deep understanding of PLA and the market, we are confident that together we can accelerate adoption in key industries, demonstrating the versatility and benefits of PLA far beyond packaging and food serviceware.鈥

The partnership leverages Benvic鈥檚 technical expertise in compounding and TotalEnergies Corbion鈥檚 knowledge of PLA chemistry, established brand recognition, and regulatory support. By working together on refining products and engaging with customers, the two companies aim to establish PLA compounds as innovative and scalable solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and brand owners producing durable goods, with a particular focus on the automotive and electronics sectors.

鈥淏envic has managed a continuous focus in terms of engineering and production capabilities on Plantura庐 because we believe in a biobased future,鈥 stated Eric GRANGE, marketing director at Benvic. 鈥淲ith the support of TotalEnergies Corbion, we are poised to unlock new opportunities, strengthen our presence in the market, and deliver high-performance sustainable materials to our customers.鈥

The companies believe this collaboration will play a crucial role in advancing the adoption of more sustainable materials across various industrial applications, contributing to a circular economy and reducing reliance on fossil-based plastics.

TotalEnergies Corbion leads the way in sustainable Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) innovation, offering biobased and compostable solutions that lower carbon footprints and support a circular economy through recycling. Headquartered in the Netherlands, the 50/50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and Corbion operates an advanced PLA production facility in Rayong, Thailand. By promoting PLA adoption across diverse sectors and collaborating throughout the value chain, TotalEnergies Corbion aims to revolutionize industries with bioplastics for a healthier planet.
