Vianode and Ateios partner to develop sustainable, high-performance graphite electrodes, enhancing battery efficiency, scalability, and reducing environmental impact across industries.
Vianode, a specialist in advanced battery materials, has entered into a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Ateios Systems, a United States鈥揵ased supplier of battery components, to collaborate on the development of next-generation graphite electrodes. This agreement focuses on supplying high-performance synthetic anode graphite that will be integrated into Ateios Systems鈥 innovative electrode platform.
As part of the strategic pilot initiative outlined in the LOI, Vianode will deliver synthetic graphite in a phased manner to support Ateios鈥 electrode manufacturing operations. These electrodes will be paired with Ateios鈥 advanced, PFA-free cathode chemistries, including lithium cobalt oxide (LCO), nickel manganese cobalt (NMC), and lithium iron phosphate (LFP). Collectively, these materials represent a significant portion of the battery components widely used across industries such as consumer electronics, robotics, drones, electric mobility, and grid-scale energy storage systems.
The initial supply of graphite will be sourced from Vianode鈥檚 Via ONE facility in Norway, which is recognized as one of the world鈥檚 most sustainable graphite production plants. As demand increases and additional capacity becomes available, supply will transition to the company鈥檚 upcoming Via TWO facility in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. This phased approach ensures both scalability and reliability in meeting the growing demand for advanced battery materials.
According to Stefan Bergold, Chief Commercial Officer of Vianode, the demand for batteries is expanding rapidly beyond traditional electric vehicle applications. Emerging sectors such as robotics, drones, and energy storage are driving the need for high-performance materials that can deliver reliability, efficiency, and customized form factors.
Glen Kozeli, Director of Sales and Business Development for the Americas at Vianode, emphasized the importance of scalable and sustainable manufacturing processes. He noted that Ateios Systems is at the forefront of developing technologies that align with these goals. The collaboration aims to strengthen the battery supply chain while reducing environmental impact, leveraging Vianode鈥檚 consistent and sustainably produced anode materials.
Ateios Systems has gained industry recognition for its RaiCore鈩 electrode technology, showcased at the US Battery Show in October 2025. This technology enables rapid manufacturing while maintaining strong performance metrics, including higher energy density and lower production costs. It is also notable for being independently verified as free from 鈥渇orever chemicals.鈥 The technology builds on innovations developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, scaled at Eastman Kodak, and benchmarked at the Battery Innovation Center, bringing together extensive expertise in battery development and manufacturing.
Through this partnership, both companies will collaborate on designing, testing, and delivering production-grade electrode samples. Rajan Kumar, CEO of Ateios Systems, highlighted that the collaboration will enable the company to offer a complete electrode solution by combining its cathode technology with Vianode鈥檚 high-quality graphite anodes. This integration is expected to accelerate market adoption and allow manufacturers to scale production efficiently without requiring significant additional research and development investments.
Vianode鈥檚 synthetic graphite stands out for its sustainability, offering up to 90% lower carbon dioxide emissions compared to conventional production methods. In addition to environmental benefits, the material supports improved battery performance, including faster charging, longer operational life, enhanced cycle durability, and better recyclability.
