Avaada Group has partnered with Swiss technology firm Casale to develop an advanced green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha. The facility, with a planned capacity of 1,500 tons per day (TPD), will be fully powered by renewable energy. This project represents a major step in Avaada鈥檚 commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions in India and aligns with the country鈥檚 push toward green hydrogen and ammonia as viable alternatives to fossil fuels.

Casale will contribute its cutting-edge ammonia production technology, ensuring a carbon-free process for the plant. Under the agreement, Casale will provide the necessary process license, a basic engineering package, proprietary equipment, and a comprehensive engineering review. With this collaboration, Casale鈥檚 total licensed green ammonia production capacity in India will rise to 5,700 TPD, further cementing its presence in the country鈥檚 clean energy landscape. The use of advanced ammonia synthesis technology will enhance efficiency and sustainability, helping reduce carbon emissions in industrial applications.

This initiative follows Avaada鈥檚 recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government, under which the company has committed Rs. 20,700 crore for various renewable energy projects. These investments include the development of 1,500 MW of floating solar power capacity, two pumped hydro storage plants of 1,000 MW each, and green energy manufacturing units. These projects will play a critical role in bolstering India鈥檚 renewable energy infrastructure and facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Avaada has set an ambitious target of achieving 11 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2026. In line with this vision, the company has successfully raised significant investments to fund its expansion. In 2023, Avaada secured $1 billion from Brookfield鈥檚 Energy Transition Fund and an additional $300 million from Thailand鈥檚 PTT Group subsidiary GPSC. These financial commitments highlight investor confidence in Avaada鈥檚 strategy and its role in shaping India鈥檚 renewable energy future.

Green ammonia is gaining traction globally as a key enabler of decarbonization, particularly in industries such as shipping, fertilizers, and power generation. By leveraging renewable energy sources to produce ammonia, Avaada aims to provide a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional ammonia production methods, which rely heavily on fossil fuels. This project will also support India鈥檚 broader hydrogen economy, which is expected to play a crucial role in meeting long-term energy and climate goals.
