E3 Lithium Ltd., a leading Canadian lithium developer, has announced encouraging initial results from its joint battery development project with Pure Lithium Corporation. The companies are collaborating under a Joint Development Agreement to produce lithium metal batteries using E3鈥檚 lithium concentrate and Pure Lithium鈥檚 proprietary extraction and battery technologies.

Battery cells were produced at Pure Lithium鈥檚 facility in Boston using various lithium chloride concentrates derived from E3 Lithium鈥檚 proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) process. These concentrates represent different stages of E3鈥檚 commercial facility process flow. The lithium was electrodeposited onto copper substrates, forming battery-ready pure lithium metal anodes.

Once assembled into full battery cells, the anodes underwent performance testing with the following highlights:

听听听听听听听听听听听听听 Lithium Purity: All E3-derived brine streams resulted in lithium metal with over 99.9% purity, as verified through ICP-OES analysis.

听听听听听听听听听听听听听 Life Cycle Performance: All battery cells achieved more than 500 charge-discharge cycles while retaining at least 80% of their original capacity.

听听听听听听听听听听听听听 Charge/Discharge Rate: Batteries were tested at a 1C:1D ratio, indicating one-hour charge and discharge durations, demonstrating consistent performance.

The study also confirmed that a readily producible version of E3鈥檚 lithium concentrate served as the most cost-efficient feedstock for Pure Lithium鈥檚 battery technology. Importantly, there were no performance differences between batteries made from E3鈥檚 Leduc Formation brine-derived lithium and those created with Pure Lithium鈥檚 traditional sources.

The collaboration aims to integrate a streamlined process capable of producing ultra-pure lithium metal anodes at minimal cost. This joint effort supports the broader goal of building a sustainable North American lithium battery supply chain.

鈥淭hese results confirm that E3鈥檚 lithium concentrate can be used to create battery-grade lithium metal anodes through Pure Lithium鈥檚 process,鈥 said Chris Doornbos, president and CEO of E3 Lithium. 鈥淭he Pure Lithium team has done exceptional work in validating the performance of our lithium. We are optimistic about the opportunity to build a local lithium battery supply chain together.鈥

Pure Lithium Founder, Chairman and CEO Emilie Bodoin echoed that enthusiasm: 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to reinvent the lithium supply chain alongside E3 Lithium. Our process successfully transformed unconventional lithium sources into pure metal anodes. Testing across more than 100 batteries proved both consistency and cost efficiency, highlighting the commercial viability of this novel technology.鈥

The partnership continues to advance the design and development of a scalable, integrated battery production solution.

E3 Lithium is a resource development company with a total of 16.2 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) classified as Measured and Indicated, along with 0.9 million tonnes of Inferred LCE resources in Alberta and an additional 2.5 million tonnes of Inferred LCE resources in Saskatchewan.
