LanzaTech, a global commercial provider of the carbon recycling technology across the globe announced this week its plan to roll out a new small-scale waste biomass gasifier in India. The new gasifier will be hosted at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. (MRPL), one of India鈥檚 leading refiners. The LanzaTech gasifier, which will be built in partnership with Indian project development firm Ankur Scientific, will use waste to manufacture Ethanol and chemicals rather than power. This gasifier using air-blown technology would enable the production of Ethanol at much cheaper rates contrary to the expensive oxygen-blown gasifiers used in most of the industrial units today. LanzaTech estimated that if the pilot project proves to be successful, it can enable the country to produce upto 25 billion liters of Ethanol per annum and potentially rule out 60 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
