Residents of Le Havre Sud are now benefiting from a significant step towards cleaner and more sustainable heating, thanks to the inauguration of the extended R茅sOc茅ane district heating network on May 5. This ambitious project, a collaboration between TotalEnergies, Dalkia, and the Le Havre Seine M茅tropole Urban Community, harnesses the previously untapped industrial heat generated by TotalEnergies' vast Normandy platform to warm over 12,000 homes in the area.

Launched in February 2023, the core objective of the R茅sOc茅ane extension was to reduce the reliance on natural gas for heat production by strategically recovering the substantial heat produced as a byproduct of the industrial processes at TotalEnergies' Normandy site. This innovative approach transforms what was once waste heat into a valuable energy source, embodying the principles of circularity and energy efficiency.

The impact of this project is substantial. By utilizing this recovered industrial heat, the R茅sOc茅ane network now operates with an impressive 80% renewable and recovered heat mix. This significant shift is projected to prevent the emission of approximately 16,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, making a tangible contribution to the decarbonization goals of both the local territory and the wider Le Havre Seine M茅tropole Urban Community.

The official inauguration ceremony saw the presence of key figures instrumental in the project's realization, including Jean-Baptiste Gastinne, the 1st Deputy Mayor of Le Havre and 1st Vice-President of the Le Havre Seine M茅tropole Urban Community, Sylvie J茅hanno, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dalkia, and Jean-Marc Durand, Senior Vice President, Refining & Petrochemicals Europe at TotalEnergies.

Speaking at the inauguration, Jean-Baptiste Gastinne emphasized the strategic advantage this project brings to the region. "TotalEnergies' waste heat recovery is the perfect example of how our metropolis can take advantage of its industrial port area to move forward on the path of energy transition," he stated. "By connecting the platform to our district heating network, we are making a strength of our industrial specificity, by exploring all the potential for decarbonization."

Jean-Marc Durand from TotalEnergies underscored the company's commitment to both environmental responsibility and local integration. "We are delighted to inaugurate this ambitious and concrete energy-saving project. It is part of our desire to strengthen the integration of our industrial activities into the local ecosystem," he explained. "The project also meets TotalEnergies' objective of committing to increasingly accessible energy and which includes the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. CO2 At the heart of its projects."
